About the Author

Hi!  I'm Jessica, a 34 year old sahm of 7 children ages 1 though 15 with another on the way due in November 2011!   My days consist of changing diapers, running errands, fixing meals, doing laundry, helping with homework, doing my own homework, doing more laundry, delegating chores, settling arguments, fixing more meals, doing More laundry……….hence the Mom of all Trades :)

As a child I always saw my life with 2 children.   I never dreamt of having a large family but now that I have it, I couldn't imagine it any other way, even though most of the people around me thinks it's just crazy.

In my spare time (did I say Spare??)……ok more like in the few minutes here and there that I get to sneak away from the kids, I enjoy sewing and doing web design.   I'm currently taking online college course to get my degree in web design and I hope to continue on into computer programming and go back into the workforce once my youngest child starts school.

  1. Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for the follow! I have a soft spot for big families like ours! Looking forward to checking out your blog.

  2. I grew up with one sister and was raised by my single mother. I never saw myself married, but yet always saw myself having two children. Never more than two. I never saw myself married because I never grew up in a marriage. I didn’t think fathers were all that important. Sad, huh? But yet, I met my husband and we have been married now almost 19 years. My sister, too, married and has three children. They’ve been married almost 10 years. It seems that both she and I have ended the cycle of single motherhood in our family.

My husband and I never talked about how many children we wanted to have. We just started having them and kept going. Finally, after the 6th one turned a year old, we had THE discussion. How many ARE we going to have? I pointed out that we had no more room in our Ford Excursion. He countered that with, “Well, we could always buy one of those 15 passenger shuttle bus vans.” and I protested, “I could never park something like that! Those things are awfully big…and ugly!” and he said, “They are not ugly. I could trick ours out really nice…it would look cool.” and I shook my head NO. I simply did not WANT to drive one of those things. So then he said, “You just said that there is no more room in our Excursion. Do you really want a vehicle to decide our family size for us?”

Hmmmm. He got me with that one.

And that was that. The discussion ended, and the next week we bought a 15 passenger Chevy Express, and the week after that our #7 was conceived :) And I will say that I LOVE my van. I can’t even imagine being in anything else. Our family fits perfectly in it, plus we can still take others with us! Our license plate reads: POPUL8N — as in, we’re populate’n the world, LOL

Just had to leave a comment on your blog after reading about you! Growing up I always wanted a big family and now I have two (a two year old and a one year old) and we know we want more but we are talking about putting it off a few years! We are trying to move out of the city and hoping that will help bring us some clarity and sanity (at least glimpses of it). Love being a mom but just don’t feel like there is enough of me to go around all the time. Props to you for making it all work – you are an inspiration!

    • I definitely know the “not enough to go around” feeling :) My kids are 15, 12, 9, 6, 4, 2 and 1 so their needs vary greatly and some need me more often than others and most days it works out pretty smoothly. But there are those days where I definitely feel like I’m being pulled in 20 different directions lol.

Hope you’re able to get out of the city soon! And sanity? ‘eh who needs it lol.
